Q: what east coast city has the best rental car rates?
We are going to the norheast in July for a month and want to know which city has the best car rental rates.

A: I don't think there is a quick or easy answer to your question. Each city may have 4 or 5 different car rental companies, and each company can offer different rates in different cities. I would suggest that you pick 6 - 8 cities and go to a booking site, like travelocity as an example, and search car rental rates for each of those cities. They will give you price comparisons between many of the car rental companies in that city. Once you find the cheapest car rental/city you can also try going to that car rental company's website directly, to see if they have any online specials or deals that would help lower the rate. You can also try using a car rental discount code, if you qualify. There are hundreds of membership programs and professional associations that offer car rental discount codes to their members. You can find a list of car rental discount codes for 8 major car rental companies, at http://www.best-car-rental-tips.com/discount-codes.html You can either book the car at the rental companies site, or start comparing that company, city, and dates through other booking sites, like priceline, hotwire, etc. Good luck with your research and hope you have a great trip in July!

Q: Which Rental Car company has the best premium cars?
I was interested in renting a "premium" car from a rental company for vacation, and was curious peoples opinions on the best rental car company, and which company has the nicest premium cars. Thanks...

A: At a national chain level, I would say Hertz. In addition to Jags, Caddies, Rovers, and Audis, they now rent the Mustang Shelby Cobra. Soon they may also start to rent the C6 Vette. At the local level, there are many smaller companies that rent exotic cars. For example, in LA or Scottsdale, you can rent a F430 or 911 Turbo. Just check the yellowpages.

Q: What is the best car rental company in Florida?
I'm considering a little Memorial Day gateaway to Miami or West Palm Beach, so I would probably need a car to move around. Any suggestions which car rental company has good rates? Thank for all your answers.

A: Give CarRentals.com a try - http://www.carrentals.com they will compare the rates for the various services and get you the best deal. Hope this helps!

Q: What is the best car rental company for someone under 25?
I am planning a trip out to Southern California to drive the Pacific Coast highway to Monterrey and back, only most car rental companies I have found charge huge fees just for being under 25. Does anyone know of a company that does not charge these fees? Thanks!

A: All car rental companies charge underage fees for renters under 25. They average around $25-$30 a day. Enterprise does seem to have the lowest underage fees, starting around $10 a day and up to $25 per day, depending on the city you're renting in. I would definitely check with Enterprise first! Hope this helps!

Q: For a 10 day trip along the California coastline (San Fr to San Diego). What are the best car rental options?
I am planning a 10 day driving trip along the California coastline (San Francisco to San Diego). Initial research is showing that car rental will be at least $400 for the 10 days (not including insurance!)--way out of our price range. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best company/location to pick up/drop off or any other ideas for ways to do it for less money? We are looking to take our trip in the beginning of March. Any other recommendations for our trip? Places to stop along the way? Thanks for your help!

A: I personally prefer Hertz because I have rented with them the most and AAA gives discount if you rent with them. Try to search for discounts online for car rentals. You won't need an SUV/4WD for driving on Hwy 1, a sedan would do. See travelzoo link below. Here are a few places you might be interested in: 1. All the lighthouses along the CA coast off of Hwy 1 - you can do the ones that are on your travel path. Check the URL below for more info. 2. San Francisco, LA, San Diego - there's lots to do so prioritize according to how much time you have for each city. 3. Big Sur - Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park 4. Solvang 5. Hearst Castle, San Simeon 6. Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz If you are AAA member, I'd recommend you stop by at their office and get their tour book. It has lot of good info. Have a nice trip!

Q: I'm planning a trip to California. What is the best car rental company?
I'm french. My girlfriend and I would like to go from SF to LA. 1° Have you heard about "Alamo" 2° What about insurances 3° Can we rental a mechanical gear (don't know how to drive an automatic 4° We're planning to rent it for a full week : will $ 200 - $250 be enough for a compact car with insurances (e.g. : chevy aveo)

A: Alamo is a large company and completely reputable. Hertz is the largest and possibly the best. Alamo should not be a problem if that is who you want to use. Since you are from France I am not sure how the insurance would work. You should ask your insurance company, and the car rental company as well. You will probably have to rent an automatic but they are VERY easy to drive. (Easier than standard/mechanical shift.) On the automatic shift gear indicator you will see P, N, R, D, and then numbers such as 3, 2, 1. P is for park. Only shift into this when the car is at a full stop! N is neutral. D is for Drive. When you want to move forward put the transmission into D (drive) and hit the gas. That's all there is to it. R is for reverse. Same as drive, but in reverse. The numbers allow you to select a specific gear. It is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that you will need to use this feature. NOTE: When shifting into our out of park or reverse the car should NOT be moving. In fact many cars require that your foot be on the brake when you shift. $200-250 sounds reasonable for a week long rental, but it all depends on the city you are renting from. Also, when renting in one city and dropping in another you may have to pay extra. I hope this helped. Enjoy your trip.

Q: Best Car Rental Agencies for Underage Drivers?
My sister needs to rent a car in the UK (London) and we need to know what Car Rental Agency/ies will rent to a 22 year old? I know that Dollar at London Heathrow does it but they are very expensive. Thanks.

A: try local agencies instead of the big guys - i rented a car for my 22 year olf b/f from a local company - i think the deposit was high and we had a tiny engine car (a kensignton 100 I believe)

Q: What is the best car rental company?
Need to rent a large vehicle for 1 month. For 3 adults and 6 suitcases.

A: Thrifty Car Rental

Q: In Canada, what is the best car rental company to use when planning a long-distance trip? Need a van, cheap!?
My family and another (7 people in total + 2 dogs in crates) are planning a road-trip to Florida in the Spring. We're looking for the best way to rent a van (not a mini-van), inexpensively... what companies offer: a) vans b) best rates, when considering any extra km/mileage charges? Thanks!

A: Unfortunately, I don't think you would be able to find a rental van that would suit your needs. The only vehicle other than a minivan that will seat 7 is a large SUV, but you would be limited in your cargo and luggage capacity. 12 to 15 passenger vans are severely limited in their luggage capacity. I would recommend two medium size SUV's (like a GMC Envoy or Jeep Grand Cherokee). They would each seat 5 people and I would put one dog crate in each. Any extra luggage could go in the SUV with the least amount of passengers. The best chance of getting the cheapest rates and unlimited Km would be to book as far in advance as possible. Check with the rental company to find out the difference in rates at different locations in your area. Sometimes the airport locations are the only ones that offer unlimited Km, while the rates for the vehicles themselves can be cheaper off-airport. Check into some discounts if you are a member of Air Miles (they are affiliated with Budget Rent a Car). You can also get discounts if you are an Aeroplan member or Costco Cardholder. Hope this helps!

Q: What's the best car rental service if I'm traveling from Milan to Rome?
I'd like to be able to drop of the car in Rome or somewhere nearby, and it should be good value for money. I know about the international companies like Europcar, Hertz and Avis -- but which are the best/cheapest, or are there any local ones that are better?

A: I live in Italy and we rent cars all the time we always rent from Europcar which is cheap, clean they speak english when you pick up the car and if you need assistances on the road. I know that I've heard lots of people having problems with Hertz and AVIs here!! If you want you can drop the car off and the Rome airport either one if thats easy or they have some places in Rome itself They have 11 locations in Rome to drop them off two are the airport. There website is http://www.europcar.com. Two points though you need to know how to drive stick because its very very hard to get automatic from any car rental place here since most Europeans drive stick. Cars are much smaller here too so if you have lugguage don't get a small car with 2 doors. and small cars with 4 doors can still be hard my advise is a med size or large if you are going with 4 or more people get a 7 person van even. You will need the space I know from experiece.

Q: Best car rental for locals in Las Vegas?
What's the cheapest car rental place for locals in Las Vegas? You can't rent at the airport without a flight reservation and they seem to have the best rates there. I'm looking to go to LA over the weekend. Also, some places charge an extra $20-$30 a day for insurance. I hate to use my own with a rental.

A: I like Enterprise who picks you up, takes you to office for paperwork, and then off you go for the trip. And IF you have auto insurance you do not have to pay for extra; check with your personal insurance agent.
