Q: How good is a stock Chevy Tahoe for off roading?
My cousin just brought a brand new Chevy Tahoe and he wants to take through in the trails in the woods in my town. Is a Chevy Tahoe any good for off roading or do we have to get it lifted?

A: Depends on your off roading. Its not going to do anything hardcore but its more than capable of handling going down 2 tracks and stuff like that.

Q: What is the difference between a normal Chevy 350cid and a Stroker Chevy 350cid?
What do I need to add to my Chevy 350 to turn it onto a Stroker? Is the performance worth the extra buck? Thanks

A: The term "stroker" simply means that the crankshaft stroke has been increased above what originally came in the motor. The increase in stroke results in an increase in displacement. For example, a 327 and a 350 both have the same bore of 4.0", but the 350 has a .23" longer stroke, thus the 350 is actually a stroked large journal 327. A popular stroker is the 383, which swaps the 3.48" stroke 350 crank for a 3.75" stroke 400 crank, but with the increased availability of aftermarket cranks in numerous strokes you can build strokers of several displacements not just the 383.

Q: How far will the Chevy travel before catching up to the Ford?
A Ford is traveling with a speed of 15m/s and is 200 meters ahead of a Chevy traveling in the same direction at 20m/s.

A: time needed t=200/(20-15)=40 s then s1= v1*t=20*40 =800 m for Chevy and s2=v2*t=15*40=600 m for Ford

Q: Why would a 2003 Chevy ZR-2 Tracker start for just a second and then quit and not start?
It is a 2003 ZR-2 Chevy Tracker with a DOHC 2.5 litre V-6. When you try to start it it hits and has an odor as if the gas were half burned. I am thinking it may be a timing belt but am not sure. Also does this model have two timing belts?

A: It's not a timing belt. It's more likely fuel pressure. Hard to say. I'd have the fuel filter changed first. If that doesn't do it, then you need to check out the usual suspects. Ignition, fuel pressure, ignition timing issues. Should be easy to isolate by a mechanic as it's not an intermittent problem. Probably under an hour to diagnose.

Q: What's the difference between the 93 chevy 2500 and the 3500?
I have a 3500 93 chevy with the 350 TBI in it and it is not a dually it is just single rear wheels. My friend has a 93 chevy 2500 with the 350 TBI in it also. What's the difference between the two if you took the 3500 and the 2500 stickers off they would look IDENTICAL. Is there something different as far as the gears go or something?

A: GEAR RATIOS, TRANYS, COMPUTER PROGRAMING, TOWING SYSTEMS, BRAKES AND SUSPENSION... THE 2500 IS A 3/4 TON AND 3500 IS A 1 TON TRUCK

Q: How much HP would a Chevy 267ci v8 sbc make with a 4bbl carb and headers with dual flowmasters?
How much HP would a Chevy 267ci v8 sbc make with a 4bbl carb and headers with dual flowmasters? They were made from 79-82. Stock with a 2bbl it says 120 hp and 215 ft/lbs torque... So how much hp and torque would it make with a 4bbl estimated?

A: Headers and exhaust will gain you 20-25 HP. Intake and carb 15 HP So put you around 155 HP or so

Q: What gasket is best for Chevy turbo 350 transmission pan replacement?
My tranmission gasket is leaking on my Chevy 350 turbo and I have a friend fixing it. I need to buy a gasket and tranmission fluid. What type of gasket is best to buy and how many quarts of fluid do I need to bring to replace? Do I need sealer? Any suggestions? Thanks!!!!!

A: i like NAPA tranny pan gaskets best. the holes are slightly undersized so you can start all the bolts to hold the gasket in place while you mount the pan. don't use any adhesive or sealer. 3-4 qt of type A fluid should be enough. start with 3 then check when engine is running and hot.

Q: What year of chevy impalas has the largest interior?
I am looking into getting a chevy impala but am concerned about the size of the interior due to the fact that I'm 5'10 lol. Does anyone know which year of chevy impalas [2000-2008] is the largest? im only looking between the 00-08 years.

A: I believe they're similar in headroom. The new one is taller, but the seats are also up higher, so it gives the illusion of being more roomy from the outside. I think the 2000 model ones look the best, I didn't like them after they got redesigned. they're not as original, I don't think. Plus, the older ones came with a nicer engine in them.

Q: Most possible options to boost the performance of my Chevy Impala?
I have a 2007 Chevy Impala LS 3.5L V6. I would like to know if there is a chance where I can make the car run better than a SS or the Charger R/T even though I heard it will take a lot to place a Hemi inside a Chevy.

A: bigger exhaust pipe, turbo. supercharger. just spend money.

Q: What is the purpose of the Chevy Z71 package in a 2wd truck?
I am looking at a used 04' Chevy Colorado. It says that it has the Z71 off road package but it is a 2wd truck. I know the Z71 package is an off road package, so why would it be offered in a 2wd truck?

A: Z71 gives you skid plates, better shocks, and the appearance package. I've never seen it on a 2wd truck, though. Not saying it wasn't available, but I guess maybe some folks just like the look.

Q: How do you get good horsepower out of a chevy 350?
I have a chevy 350 out of a 1990 chevy 1500 4x4. I think it has about 200 horsepower right now and I want to rebuild it and get 300-350 horsepower. I probably don't want to spend more than $900 I also want to put rebuilt vortec heads on it and that will cost about $250.

A: You'll need to upgrade to higher compression pistons and do some research on camshafts.

Q: What would the insurance on a 1973 chevy nova cost?
It is not a SS it's just a 1973 chevy nova for a 16 year old. Would it be outrageous? It's not a souped up car really although the engine has some add ons. Mr D grow a pair you high school drop out scum. I hope you enjoy your miserable pathetic life. I can't wait to drive my ass around in my souped up chevy nova.

A: It sounds like a cop out but you need to actually check an online insurance company for a quote. You can get an answer in a few minutes. In my experience a 73 Nova will be fairly inexpensive, but being 16 will drive it way up. And, inexpensive is a relative term. Anyway the point I wanted to make is part of the rate will be based on the engine that originally came in the car. The engine code is the 5th digit in the VIN. They won't ask what engine you have, they'll look at that number. The 250 6 cylinder will be cheaper than the 350. FYI, the factory engines: D = 250 1bbl L6 F = 307 2bbl V8 H = 350 2bbl V8 K = 350 4bbl V8

Q: What does it take to convert a chevy 350 to a marine engine?
I'm looking for a project boat for over the winter. Most of my boating experience has been on 24-28ft cabin cruisers running mercruisers, so I'm looking for a similar hull I can fix up. Is the whole block different, or can you convert a standard chevy?

A: It's mostly the cam, lifters and looser springs. Marine engines rev higher and longer with less torque braking on the shaft. There are marine kits in JEGS and the likes.

Q: How to install cam bearings in a chevy truck?
I need to know how to install cam bearings in a 5.7 L engine 1998 Chevy. I need to know about the oil Galleries specifically Thanks for the answers. There are oil galleries on top and bottom.I have the tool but mainly need to know which set of oil holes to line up with the top set or the bottom set.

A: The cam bearings are just slightly different in diameter, so you have to make sure you install them in the correct order. The smallest in back, largest in front. Make sure the oil holes are lined up when you put them in. I personally never do it my self, I find it easier to do it when I take the block for cleaning, but if you are just replacing the cam, and want to do it yourself, my advice is to purchase or rent the proper tool.

Q: 1990 Chevy Beretta it will start but will not stay running?
1990 Chevy Beretta will start but will not stay running for more than a second or two. The fuel filter and fuel pump have been replaced, the fuel pressure is good and we have spark. I could really use some advice on what to try next?

A: Does it start right up each time? I would suggest that you hotwire the fuel pump to power to see if it keeps running. It may be an oil pressure switch, it closes the circuit when oil pressure is good allowing the fuel pump to run, no oil pressure or defective sender equals no fuel pump power.
