Q: How should I cheaply but effectively lift my 1990 Ford Ranger?
I have a 1990 Ranger XLT and Want to get it lifted cheaply, I dont care for a suspension lift, I just want the body lift. It has leaf springs in the back but the coil's in the front so I cant just do a leaf spring flip. I would like to know a cheap way of lifting the body, or a link to a cheap lift. Thanks

A: Body lifts are garbage. They do not enhance the actual off-road ability of the vehicle in any way other than allowing the fitment of larger tires. Additionally the bumpers will look awkward, and you may run into issues with the steering column and issues with broken wires. Do it right, get a quality suspension lift kit, or don't do it at all. Also remember to regear.

Q: I have a 1990 ford ranger that is vibrating as I drive down the road, need your help!!?
Hi, I have a 1990 ford ranger that is vibrating as I drive down the road, it will start to vibrate pretty hard when I reach about 25 mph. I hve check the tie rods, front wheel bearings, tires, and the u-joints on the drive shaft. Is there anything else I could check? Thanks for your help.

A: My 1993 Toyota did that when I first got it and it has a 4" lift kit installed. When I took it to a place that works on 4 X 4 vehicles they told me it could be just about anything especially since I had the lift kit on it. But the guy said start with the obvious thing first, which was the drive shaft. We took it off the truck and took it in to find out if it was balanced, and sure enough it wasn't. They welded a weight on it where it needed it and we put it back on the truck. No more vibrations! Might want to do that. Hope I've helped a bit.

Q: I have a 1990 Ford Ranger that doesn't reverse?
I have a 1990 ford ranger and it recently decided not to reverse. It drives forward but it doesn't reverse. Could some one help me figure it out before I sent it to a mechanic? And rough costs estimates would be cool too.

A: This happened to my ford contour when my mother ran it low on transmission fluid. Your car needs the transmission rebuilt or replaced. the price depends more on the car, place you bring it, or mechanic you know. You're looking around 1500+ easy. Sorry about your car :(

Q: Does a 1990 Ford Ranger have rack and Pinion steering?
What year did Ford start putting rack and pinion steering the the Ranger?

A: I own a '94 Ford Ranger and it has parallelogram steering. It is 2wd, but i am not sure if the 4wd models have a different type of steering.

Q: What is the compression specification (psi) for a 1990 Ford Ranger with a 4.0Lt engine?
1991 to 94 Ford Explorers have the same engine as the Ranger V6 4.0. I need the cylider compression specs

A: about 9:1 should pump 150 to 180

Q: When i stall out my 1990 ford ranger it shakes when i start it back up, what and whay is that?
I stink at driving a stick and i hope i get better. I just dont wanna ruin my truck. Does anyone have any tips?

A: Yes just take it to a parking lot that is not being used and practice take your time and it will work, do it with no one else in the truck so you won't get a panic attack. The shaking when you start it back up is because you have to much fuel in the cyl. just hold it at higher idle and it will burn itself off

Q: 1990 Ford Ranger keeps shutting down?
I have a 1990 Ford Ranger with a brand new 2.9 liter V6 and a rebuilt tranny. The truck is smooth, fast, and I love it. But, after a long day of driving (or even 10 minutes), it loses power and shuts down. What could cause this? It's a brand new engine!

A: Did you change the cat after putting in the new motor? What happened before to the old motor? Chances are the cat got fouled when the old motor failed. 2.9`s were not the best and were prone to head gaskets blowing. An old mechanic can check this with a simple check using a vacuum gauge. Younger guys fail this simple test because they rely on scan tools and they won`t tell you this kind of problem. The only other thing could be a fuel issue, Pump or filters.

Q: I need to find seats for a 1990 Ford Ranger. How can I make seats from another truck work into mine?
I want to get some bucket seats for my truck, I am redoing it and want to get bucket seats for it but cant seem to find bucket seats that go into my truck, so how can I put bucket seats from a newer truck into mine? Is there a bracket I can buy or am I going to have to to fabricating?

A: You might check out the Mazda B2000 or B4000 trucks from the same year or thereabouts if you can find any in decent shape. The Mazda trucks were gussied-up Rangers and came with bucket seats.

Q: Where do you put the transmission fluid in a 1990 Ford Ranger?
I know all the other basics. Oil, coolant, break fluid, power steering but I couldn't see anywhere under the hood for the transmission fluid. (Of course it was dark out! ) My mechanic added a while back but the truck is showing it's age and when it is cold out almost impossible to shift. Even had to start in second tonight to get home. Where under the hood do I put the fluid? Thank in advance.

A: Even had to start in second tonight to get home. Where under the hood do I put the fluid? Is this a manual transmission ? If it is then you add oil thru a plug on side of transmission. Also wrong oil viscosity will make it hard to shift.

Q: how to remove fuel injectors in 1990 Ford Ranger?
I have to burnt fuel injectors and thier wire connection. I am not sure on how to remove them with out braking other parts. Is their any other parts that might be bad as well. It is the two back injectors that are bad.

A: remove the fuel rail and they just pop out really

Q: 1990 Ford Ranger driveabilty issue and EVP problem?
Just bought a cheap Ford Ranger (2.3 L, MT). I have come across a few issues. Probably first starting with the parts-hanging previous owner, but that is a story for another time! The truck just barely passed the emissions test with high HC and high CO. Intermittently, while on the highway and accelerating, it bogs down and losses power. It idles fine when the problem happens. I also notice an intermittent misfire when reving or driving the engine (again intermittent)! I have started initial testing including vacuum tests, looking for vacuum leaks, wet testing the wires, etc. Any Ideas? The computer has code 32 stored in it for the EVP, but I am not sure this has anything to do with my driveabilty issue. But I would like to test this sensor. But, I cannot find any resources that clearly describe how. Anyone know? (It is the gray sensor) I have a degree in automotove engineering and used to be an ASE Master Tech, but it has been many years since I worked in the field. Thanks!

A: Check your ignition system like the spark plugs etc. Also sounds like you might need a new catalytic converter.

Q: How much would it cost to replace the power steering unit on a 1990 ford ranger?

A: Pumps average $60.00 and it will cost you about 2 hrs of labor at your local repair shop......

Q: Need to find vin number on 1990 ford ranger?
I am have troulbe w/ finding a vin number on my ford ranger, after having lost the title. could some please tell me all possable location where this might be found

A: Door jamb sticker or the drivers side corner of the dash looking through the windshield.

Q: Overdrive in automatic transmission not working in 1990 Ford Ranger?
I need to know if there is a sensor or what other possible things could be wrong. It shifts fine except when you get around 50mph it won't go into overdrive so the rpm stays at 3. It doesn't leak or burn oil it has around 114,000miles. Please help!! It has Overdrive, Drive, I, 2. The truck runs in Drive but again the rpm stays at 3 if your doing 55mph. No slipping, or hesitating exept od not working. reverse and everything else is okay there's no overdrive button to turn on or off

A: A bad temp sensor can do that. If the engine thinks the temp is below 20 degrees it won't let the transmission go into overdrive.

Q: My 1990 ford ranger is leaking a gold looking tan looking substance?
I realized today that my truck was leaking. It touched it and it looked kinda tanish gold. Its leaking from the middle of the truck on the bottom. Can anyone help me out? Its a stick and its leaking directly in the middle Oh and its a 2wd

A: It could be motor oil or gear oil. Is the leak closer to the front or the back? If it's under the engine you could have a leaky drain plug or oil pan gasket. If it's closer to the back your rear differential might be leaking. Then it might be your slave cylinder leaking fluid. Is the resevior under the hood low? Have you been adding break fluid to it on a regular basis?
