Q: What is wrong with my 1993 Ford F-150? It tries to stall while the elcetricity drains.?
It is a 1993 Ford F-150 with dual fuel tanks. One tank ran out of fuel so I swtiched to the other. I read in that running without fuel in the tank is bad for the pump. Now truck idles differently. The electrical gauge goes down when the engine nears a stall and come back as the engine recovers in a slow cycle. Did I screw up the fuel pump? Jon

A: Go to Auto Zone or Napa etc they all have free diagnostic checks. but sounds like short in wiring or bad ground.

Q: Is the transmission on a 1993 ford f-150 the same as a transmission on a 1994 ford f-150?
I need to know if the bellhousing is the same on both transmissions. Can anyone help?

A: it should be but ford does use 3 or 4 manufactuers, so you need to get the vin off each vehicle and go to the dealer, but you can also look at the trans serial numbers and see if they are from the same country

Q: Will a bad oxygen sensor cause the "check engine" light to come on in the dashboard of a 1993 ford f-150 truck?
The engine also dies once in a while and acts like a carburator engine when it floods. This engine is a fuel-injected 302 cu. It smokes black smoke out the exaust and is hard to restart when it dies. Somebody please help me. Thanks!!

A: Yes, a bad oxygen sensor will cause a "check engine" light to pop up. Before you jump to any conclusions, the only way to pinpoint the cause of the CEL is to use a scan tool and pull the error codes. The codes will tell you exactly which component needs attention. If you drive over to the local Auto Zone, they'll let you use a scan tool in their parking lot for free.

A: 1986-1995 are all identical body styles.

Q: How do you remove headlights on a 1993 Ford F-150?

A: When you open your hood, you will see two screws on the plastic bezel directly above the headlight. Remove those screws. After that, there are two bolts with nuts on each light. You need to loosen these nuts. If you go behind your light (in the engine bay) and feel around, you will be able to feel the nuts recessed in some of the holes and slots. There are two per light. To access these, you must remove your battery on one side, then it's easier if you also remove your washer fluid box on the other side. When you have loosened these nuts (be VERY CAREFUL not to drop them, they are hard as hell to find and hard to hang on to), partially pull that piece of trim (the trim that had the two screws at the top of the bezel) out and away from your truck. You can't remove it completely because your bulbs are attached. Twist then pull the bulb connectors (there are 3 of them) so you can completely remove that piece. Once this is done, you have removed your blinker and your corner marker as well as the trim piece (they are all connected). This leaves only the headlamp, which at that point everything is much easier to see and you will know what to do next. Good luck!

Q: my 1993 ford f-150 engine swap?
i have a 1993 ford f-150 with factory overloads on it. it has a 5.0 motor in it i want to do a engine swap and put in a biger motor in it i want to go with the 5.8 do i have to change the computer in it and what else would i have to do any info would be greatful thank you...Rick

A: I don't want to take the wind out of your sails, but for the amount of work and mods it would take to upgrade to a 5.8, I think you will be very disappointed when the gains do not meet your expectations. I can understand you wanting to undertake something like this. Projects like this are always a lot of fun. To do this swap you would not only need the PCM from the donor truck, you are also going to need the engine harness from the 5.8 liter. Other than that, the engine mounts, accessories and transmission should bolt right up. Again, not to rain on your parade, but I would seriously consider putting the time and money into the 5.0. With a nice cam and lifters and some trick heads, you could really squeeze some HP and torque out of the engine.

Q: i have a 1993 ford f-150 302/ my antilock-brake light come on w/brake light?
on the dash panel the antilock/brakelight come on .turn off engine lights go off; but they will come on again later

A: Probably a speed sensor. About a 150 dollar fix at a reputable repair shop. Truck is safe to drive until then.

Q: Which automatic transmission does my 1993 ford f-150 have? I need tail shaft housing for it?
It does NOT have the "push button" overdrive, just P-R-N-Od-D-1, it's 2wd short wheel base w/ one piece drive shaft, 5.0 L. Can anyone tell me which transmission it has based on that info, I need to know cause i busted my tail shaft assembly and looking for a new one. Thanks

A: AOD

Q: 1993 ford f-150 is misfiring and dies. just fixed radiator, what could be causing it to die and miss?
just repaired radiator. will run but it sputters and dies alot. there is gas in the gas tank.

A: Bad ignition wires, especially if it has the Ford modular 4.6 Liter engine.

Q: I have a 1993 Ford F-150 and my ABS light is staying on. I checked my fuses and none are blown. I need advice.

A: As for the brakes not working, that is not true. The ABS system will probably not function but the Basic system will function as all cars with hydraulic brakes have since the dawn of hydraulic brakes. ABS is an adjunct system for safety. As for the light, The ABS system is automatically diagnosed every time you start your truck and continuously while driving. The pads may have built in sensor that is basically a wire that goes to ground when the pad wears thin enough for the sensor to touch the rotor. There may also be wheel speed sensor rings which are just little slotted rings that may be dirty. There may be a fuse blown? There may be a loose or corroded wire. (Brake fluid will strip wire given enough time). Worst case scenario though is the ABS pump which is that machined aluminum box that has the brake lines going into it along with a set of wires. That box houses a pump that oscillates the brake pressure when you press on the pedal. Your brakes will continue to work but they won't be as safe as with ABS. Little side note, my friends in the upper midwest pull the ABS fuse in the snow because it actually gives them a bit more control. Newer systems excluded due to Traction Control working with ABS.

Q: I have a 1993 Ford F-150, should I try to make it look good, and spend the money to make it run good?
Or buy a more uptodate truck. i don't have a whole lot saved up. about 300$. i get about 100$ (ruffly) from various jobs. Should i get like a 97' dodge dakota, one whitch i want, for about 3000-3500. or put money into the truck i have. (sound, paint, new bed, ect.)

A: Alls I have to say is if you can pit $100 a month in repairs if needed . Or $200+ for payment every month . You do math. It all depends on the truck if it runs good , body is solid , I'd fix it. Depending on bed you can get replacement panels for sides if bad. And Other than the E4od auto trans there are so many of these truck sitting for parts its not funny. I run the 90 style trucks .And in my area these trucks are worth more than allot of newer rides . I got a rust free truck and had hauled to my house put my drive train (from my rust )in it and only got $2500 in whole truck . If you like the truck get running good (tune up shocks brakes ETC) and then work on body . Take to a local tech school for paint . The last thing on list should be the interior. If you don't like it fix up and get a Dakota. (their MPG is that much better at all) Good luck

Q: Where would i get a wiring diagram to run electric brakes to a trailer from a 1993 ford F-150 correctly. Thank

A: look into getting a haynes manual. Should be blue with a bronco on the cover it covers the 1980-96 ford F-series pickups and has wiring diagrams in the back. Very useful tool to have. The manual should run you 12-15 dollars but well worth what you will save in labor.
