Q: How to flush the transmission on a 2004 Ford Mustang?
I have a 2004 Ford Mustang, 3.8L V6, 5 speed manual. I need to flush the transmission, and the shop wants a lot of money to do it. does anyone know of a site that has step by step instructions on how to do this?
A: Remove the drain plug and drain it.
Easiest way to fill is with a hose attached to a funnel that you run down the back of the engine bay. Holds 5.60 pints of fluid (Mercon V)

Q: 2004 ford mustang convertible 40th anniversary good deal?
is it a wise idea to buy a 3.9 v6 2004 ford mustang convertible 40th anniversary for 12k even including everything tax title leather etc. has 40k miles? what is the difference in the v6 base model and the 40th anniversary model. please help, i might buy tomorrow. i thought the only v6 in the 2004 was a 3.8 am i wrong?
A: Many 2004 Mustangs got 40th anniversary badging but not all of them are 40th Anniversary Special Edition Mustangs!
The special edition models were only available in black, white, and crimson red. They have body-color mirrors (like the 03-04 Cobra). They have gold hood and side stripes and the same color gold on the wheels. Unlike a lot of Special Edition Mustangs, this package was available on the v6 Mustang. Ford stated that only 5700 40th Special Editions were to be produced.
If it doesn't have the gold stripes, or it isn't white, black, or red, then it's just a regular v6 convertible Mustang.
The 3.9 engine was introduced early in model year 2004 in the Mustang at the same time the Freestar was introduced. The stroke increased slightly and the piston changed slightly. With this almost negligible change in displacement the performance was the same as 3.8 and all external engine parts are the same as the 3.8
The way you can tell whether a 2004 Mustang has a 3.8 or a 3.9 is by the 8th digit in the VIN. It will be a "4" for a 3.8 v6 and a "6" for a 3.9 v6.
Kelly Blue book says that retail for the car would be approximately 14k if it was in excellent condition *and* it was really the 40th package. So if the car is really nice and you like it then it's a fair price. I would still try talking them down, ask them to throw in a free extended warranty, or free routine maintenance for the next 2 years, or anything else to make the deal sweeter.
Q: Would you recommend a 1999-2004 Ford Mustang for a first car?
I am 16, looking for a cool first car that won't break down on me. I'm just trying to see if a Mustang is suitable for a first car.
Are they reliable?
Ford has a pretty bad rep, so I'm wondering how reliable they are. Thanks.
A: I use to have a 1965 ford mustang...pretty reliable...u need one :-)
Q: Where can I find a 1999-2004 Ford Mustang needing and engine and transmission?
I have a 2001 Ford Mustang V6 with body damage a bent frame and needs the rear end replaced. I personally believe it would be cheaper to buy a stripped mustang and put my parts in it. where can i find some for sale?
A: Craigslist.com or a do it urself junk yard such as pullapart.com
Q: How do I change the battery in my Ford Mustang 2004 Mach 1?
I have a 2004 mustang mach 1 and I'm trying to change the battery. I've never worked on cars that much, but I know how to do basic maintenance. I unscrewed the bolts to the electrical leads on the top of the positive and negative switches on the battery and took them off. I can't seem to find what is holding the battery down. I looked around and I don't see any bolts securing the battery, but I know there has to be something. How do I get the battery out? Does anyone know?
Thanks so much for your help!
A: at the bottom of the battery there's should be a hold down clamp on it,if it doesn't have one on the top of it ,its on the bottom ,remove it and the battery will come out, good luck on it.

Q: How is the gas mileage on a 2004 ford mustang?
Also would it be faster than my 1986 turbocharged le baron convertible. Any pros and cons i should know about
A: Expect around 17/25 by old EPA numbers.
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calculatorSelectEngine.jsp?year=2004&make=Ford&model=Mustang
You can do better than that if you try, though.
It will eat your LeBaron alive.
Cons are it will be JAFM. (google it.)
If you get a V6, cons are reduced reliability, negligible fuel economy gains, and drastically reduced power. DO NOT GET A V6 MUSTANG. In 6 months you'll either be wanting to sell it or you'll be one of those idiots asking "how can I mod my V6 mustang to make it faster?" You mod a V6 Mustang by selling it and getting a V8.
Q: Does a 2004 Ford Mustang have an AUX port where I can plug in my iPod?
If not, does anyone know any alternate ways I can hook up my iPod to the car?
A: It does not. But, Ford sells a kit that interfaces with the radio antenna, and has an ipod input jack and power switch, for about 35-40 bucks.
Q: When should I change the the belts on a 2004 ford mustang?
I'm referring to the timing and drive belts. My car has an owner's manual but it doesn't tell me when to replace any of the car's parts. I know it's usually 60 or 90k for most cars.
A: First of all, your 2004 Mustang does NOT have a timing belt. It has a timing CHAIN or CHAINS depending on whether it has the V6 or V8 engines. This does not require replacement at any specified interval unless it has failed, which is rarely if ever. As for the drive belt, replace it only when you start to see age cracks appear, otherwise leave it alone. Hope this helps.
Q: What is the location of a 2004 ford mustang starter?
Cool thanks is it near the tranny ?
A: passenger side
Q: Does anybody know what is wrong with a 2004 Ford Mustang when it is leaking a lot of oil constantly?
It is a 6 cylinder automatic and only has 31,000 miles on it. Has been taken to many repair shops and still can't figure out what is wrong. I can't find any info on the internet.
A: I know what the problem is....it's a ford!!! LOL
Q: are 2004 ford mustang mach 1s that have a manual transmission known to lose 2nd gear?
my friend has a 2004 mach 1 and she said that her second gear has been messin up in the past few days. would anyone know y it would b messin up?
A: This is a common problem in Mustangs regardless of year model...the reason being is because 2nd gear takes the most abuse when someone is driving the car hard. The transition from 1st to 2nd is the most abusive on the transmission takes. Time for a transmission rebuild as the gear synchros are worn out.
Q: Anyone have a 1999-2004 Ford Mustang V6? What gas mileage do you get?
I'm interested in purchasing a 1999-2004 Mustang and I want to know the gas mileage it gets.(the actual mileage you get, not the ratings)
A: I have a 1999 Mustang. It really depends on where you're driving it (of course). I drive around town mostly, so it's lower than you'd get if you do a little freeway time. Right now it's about 20 mpg for a 15 g tank. Overall, it's a great car, comfortable and easy to drive.
Q: I need to get repair a back window on a 2004 ford mustang convertible?
I live in Los Angeles. Can anyone recommend a place where I can take it? It's my friends car and i broke the window on accident and I want to get it fixed for her. about how much is it going to cost me?
A: take it to any auto glass specialist, i would check out glass.net they have auto glass specialists in your area. but it will cost between 300-400 buxx just for the glass and then installation shouldnt be more than about 100 buxx.
