Q: Can I repair a 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid myself?
I'm thinking of getting a 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid. I currently have a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo and have changed the alternator, starter, shocks, brakes, and thermostat myself. Can I make the same repairs on the Escape Hybrid? Are they as easy to work on as the normal Ford Escape?
A: Hi,
according to the federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, you have certain rights to perform routine maintenance yourself on your own vehicle, allowing that you keep detailed and accurate records (receipts, logbook of maintenance, etc.), without voiding your original manufacturer warranty.
This is assuming you don't cause any damage to the vehicle in the process or as a result of that maintenance, of course.
Beyond that, you are in murky waters replacing anything beyond your own oil, oil and air filters, brake pads, shocks, and tire rotations.
BTW, another poster mentioned using the best quality brake pads because they help recharge the nickel metal hydride (NiMH) hybrid battery.
Actually, the brake pads on the hydraulic braking system have nothing to do with recharging the NiMH. That is the function of the second electric motor/generator.
There are two electric motor/generators that provide the torque to move the Escape Hybrid. When the brake pedal is pressed, the second one reverses and turns into a generator to recapture energy as electricity for storage in the NiMH.
You will not be able to work on the entire hybrid system without the specialized diagnostic tools, analysis software and training to understand the hybrid system. This is not meant as an insult to you or anyone, this is just not simple work any more.
Remember the learning curve going from carbs and butterfly valves to computer-controlled, sequential fuel injectors? This is that, plus some.
Now, the good news is you don't have to be as concerned about repairs on a hybrid vehicle like the Escape. Electric motors are much less prone to breakdown than mechanical pumps due to fewer total parts and less wear and tear from less internal moving parts. This is just not the old alternator powered 12 volt system any more.
There is a 12 volt system powering the lights and accessories, however, it is independent from the shielded high voltage NiMH one. Expect the 12 volt battery to last the equivalent of 5 years worth of driving (time or distance). The NiMH should last for 8 to 10 years worth of driving, at the very least.
So, they are like the standard Escapes in basics, but you actually have less to maintain due to the hybrid components durability and longevity.
Try Googling Escape Hybrid repairs/maintenance and look at what the experiences of other owners has been.
Good luck.
Q: Does the 2006 and the 2007 ford escape share the same body style? Will 2006 accesseries fit my 2007?
I'm wanting to buy a bug deflector and wind deflectors and all I can find fits the 2006 model ford escape. Will they fit the 2007. Is it the same body style
A: to check this look up the same part for each and see if the numbers match
Q: Is $160 reasonable for a new 2007 Ford Escape Key?
I only have one key for my newly purchased 2007 Escape. My local dealer (Alexandria, VA) has quoted $60 for the key and $100 for the programming.
Is that a realistic cost? Can it be done cheaper?
Many thanks.
To clarify, it's just a chipped key as I have a separate remote fob.
A: If it has the remote built in, jump on it. If it is the plain chip key, that is almost 3X too much.
Q: My new 2007 Ford Escape SUV is totaled, so how much is it worth now?
I bought a new 2007 Ford Escape about 6 months ago, and it only has 8000 miles on it. After a recent roll over, due to ice, my vehicle has been totaled by the insurance company.
It was a 2 wheel drive XLT, V6 engine. With other features like leather seats, sunroof, cargo privacy cover, and upgraded radio/sound system.
I know a new car loses value after driving off the dealership lot, and that the insurance company is most likely going to give me a check based on the depreciated value of the SUV.
State Farm Insurance uses NADA retail value books, but does anyone have any other idea of how much money I should be expecting?
A: Figure $2k - $5k less than you paid for it, depending upon how good a deal you got on it.
My '06 Fusion with 14.5k miles stickered at $26,045 and I paid $22,300 (I'm eligible for X-Plan pricing). It books out at $21,300 right now. That's unusually good, most cars don't do nearly that well.
Q: How do I run an amp power wire for a 2007 Ford Escape?
I am wanting to run an amp power wire from the battery to the cargo area on my ford escape to hook up my old system but can't seem to figure it out.
A: peel the carpet back by the pedals and look for a rubber boot through the firewall. run the power cord through there
Q: Does anyone know if the bolt pattern on a 2007 ford escape and a 1995 ford ranger are the same?
They are both 5 holes, but I want to put the rims from the Escape onto the Ranger.
A: Yes, I believe these are 5 on 4 1/2.
83 - 92 Ranger, Bronco II 2/4WD, 93 - 06 Ranger 2/4WD, 01 - 06 Escape, 91 - 01 Explorer, Mercury Mountaineer, 02 - 05 Explorer, Mercury Mountaineer, 2006 Mercury Mountaineer, 03 - 05 Lincoln Aviator, 05 - 06 Mercury Mariner, 01 - 06 Explorer, Sport-Trac,
Q: 2007 Ford Escape What could cause a thrumming noise from front?
The noise gets louder the faster you drive
Thanks for your answers. I thought it may be a bearing or the trans axle. The dealer says it might be the tires need replacing. Thoughts??
A: it needs a wheel bearing most likely. if you are going down the road and turn from left to right back and forth as you do that the noise should get louder depending on what side the bearing is bad on. so if you have the car leaning to the left and the noise gets louder its probably the left side... if it goes away then it is probably the right. you should be able to jack the front wheel up and wiggle it up and down to see if the wheel has play in it
Q: I have a 2007 Ford Escape XLS Front Wheel Drive 4 cylinder. What is the largest tires for the 75R15 Rims?
I want a more aggressive stance, but I don't what to modify the fenders of attempt to lift the vehicle.
A: 225/75SR15 is the only size recommended for your vehicle. Just changing the tires won't do much to give you a more aggressive stance with the stock 15" wheels, esp. since it is 2WD.
Wear out the OE tires that came on it, and then change the wheels and tires, then maybe you can get what you want.
Wheels can be had from 16" to 22" in diameter.
Q: What is your opinion of the 2007 ford Escape?
The one problem that I have found, is tire noise!
A: very good small suv just made better chck out the 08 its quieter
Q: Need help on how to install ipod through AUX button in 2007 Ford Escape?
I want to be able to plug my ipod into my car radio, have it charge and use the controls through the radio (if possible). Controlling the ipod through the radio is not necessary - the most important things are just getting it to play through the AUX function on my factory radio and charging.
I need to know what kind of wiring harness I need to buy. I have a friend who will do the install.
A: Auxiliary ports on most stock radios are usually just RCA. It will only push the sound into the stereo. Powering your iPod you'll have to rig it up to work with power coming into the car, I recommend just using a car charger.

The link I posted as a source seems to be the harness needed. Hope things go well. Let everyone know if you get it working.
Q: I own a 2007 Ford Escape XLT 4WD and it is making a chattering/pulsating noise. What could it be?
It does this when I put in Drive or Reverse but does not seem to last very long. When I took it in for service they did not find anything wrong. It appears the noise is coming from the engine or transmission area. Any idea what it could be?
A: If it is making the chattering/pulsating noise or vibration when it is at idle when it is cold, then it is in the idle control module, that is a warranty covered part if you are under 36,000 miles. If it is doinjg it when you are coming to a stop, it would be in the front trans axles. There are plastic gears at the end of the axles which work with your ABS systemand they have a tendendency to wear causing a pulsating chatter when driving or braking. This is also a warranty covered part. There are 2 , 1 on each axle
Q: 2007 Ford Escape is it really a limited edition.?
.I bought a 2007 Ford Escape 2 months ago, V6, Xlt, Heavy duty. I was told by the dealer, that this truck was a limited edition, Does anybody know if this is true Thanks.
A: Its not really a limited model. Its mass produced. Limited means its the higher up model. Thats all.
Q: What would be preferred: A 2007 Ford Escape XLT 46,300 Miles or 2007 Ford Escape XLS 26,000 Miles?
Both are in identical shape.
I only wish to have objective opinion only on the features not on the make. Thanks in advance.
A: The XLS is a cheaper model than the XLT. So being the XLS has fewer miles than the XLT The prices are probably close to being the same at this time.
The XLS will have base seats, is probably a 4 cylinder and only 2 wheel drive.
The XLT probably has the V6 , has a nicer interior and seats, and has a better chance of being all wheel drive.
Fuel mileage is not that much better with the 4 cylinder and performance is far below the V6.
Even tho the XLT has more miles you will be much happier with the XLT in the long run..
We have an 01 Escape XLT, V6 All Wheel Drive. In town fuel mileage is a solid 20mpg for my wife driving it,. my driving knocks it down to 18-19. Highway at 70 mph , me driving it gets a solid 22.5mpg.
The all wheel drive is an extra margin of safety on wet roads, gravel roads, snow and ice covered roads, and does ok in mild off roading.
Great package, nice car for the lady of the house, but roomy enough for the man of the house.
Cargo room behind the rear seat is surprising. Our XLT the rear seats fold down 60/40, do not know abou tthe XLS.
Q: What is the recommended replacement of the timing belt on a 2007 Ford Escape 4 cylinder?
A: According to pdf page 9 of the source, the 2001-2004 belts are changed every 105K miles. There is no listing for models after 2004, making me suspect it does not have a belt, but has a chain instead. Check your owner's manual for the real story.
Q: Is the 2007 Ford escape a girly car?
it's a compact suv (stereotypically girly cars) just wondering if you think it holds true for the ford escape?
A: It's more of a lemon car than a sex specific car.
