Q: Ford Taurus?
I'm considering buying a 2001 Ford Taurus (4-door SES, flex fuel). Does anyone own/used to own this car? What has been your experience?
A: The Taurus is a good solid car. They had a large number of engine and transmission failures in the early to late 90s. Most of those problems have been corrected by the time 01 came around. The Taurus was also a mainline fleet vehicle for the rental car agencies that bought stripped down models leading to many people thinking 'cheap rental' whenever they see a Taurus. However, this can be very advantageous to you. You will be able to buy an excellent car for very little money. The bad public opinion led to punishing rates of depreciation. My personal experiences have been that the Ford cars are better built than GM products but had a bad transmission design through the 90s that killed resale value. Get it inspected by an independant mechanic of your choice and if it gets a clean bill of health and is a fair price go for it! For pricing information the best site is Edmunds.com. Also, be sure to pay cash for the car. Never borrow money to purchase a depreciating asset!
Accord,Camry,Altima are all decent cars but with much higher prices and bigger bills when they break. They are also alot less comfortable to sit in than a Taurus. Camry is cramped inside. Accord has wierd driving ergonomics and a back seat that leans back too far...very uncomfortable. In 01 Nissan was going broke and the Altima was barely above the Sentra in the quality dept. Nissan has since rebounded with good management now, but you dont want one that is from that vintage.
Q: My Ford Taurus starting to delay acceleration when I step on the gas about 4 seconds then it shoots forward?
(Ford Taurus) My car is starting to delay acceleration when I step on the gas. The delay is about 3 to 4 seconds then is shoots forward and catches up to speed. This happens any time I stop and step on the gas. It's so bad that I don’t step on my gas to park because I don’t want my car to shoot forward and hit the car in front of me.
Could it be my Catalytic Converter?
A: it could be the fuel filter but it sounds more like the transmission fluid is low or the transmission filter needs changing.
Q: Is there anything different about fixing a 95 ford taurus sho starter?
Im working on my mom's '95 ford taurus sho and was wondering if there is anything different im supposed to do when working on this than normal? Is there something Im supposed to do with the shim?
A: 1)Remove battery ground to avoid shorting
2)Raise the front of vehicle so there is enough space to work underneath the front of the engine.
3)Locate the starter from the underside of the car. It is near the transmission, underneath the exhaust manifold, between the engine block and the radiator.
4)Locate the two bolts holding the starter to the engine at oposite positions 2 and 7 o'clock approximately, viewed from the left side of car. The upper bolt is actually a stud with two metric sized nuts a 13mm (deep dish socket required)and a 15mm. The lower bolt requires a metric size 13mm socket
The bolts are threaded into the starter from the transmission side of the engine
First remove the size 15mm nut on the upper bolt (2 o clock position) this will allow removal of the gound strap from the engine along with the wire harness support.
5)Loosen the bottom bolt(metric size 13mm) but do not remove completely
Using the deep size 13mm socket remove the upper bolt
Next, remove the lower bolt. The starter should still be supported in its cradle at this stage but as a precaution support it by hand while you remove the lower bolt.
6)Pry the starter loose from its mounting
Lower it between the cross member and the engine - a little maneuvering is required
When you have lowered it remove the lead(s)
There are some differences as is the case with fixing a starter in other car models.

Q: will a 1998 ford taurus transmission work in a 96 for taurus ?
I have a 1996 ford taurus automatic column transmission, that needs a transmission. Does anyone know if the transmission for a 1998 taurus would work for it?
A: There is a very good chance that they will interchange as long as the engines are the same it will just need a lil more info to determine as to that info and such. good luck
Q: How do you remove the small ford grill on a 1998 Ford Taurus?
I want to remove the small ford-logo grill on my taurus but I'm not sure how to do it. Any thoughts?
A: it could have clips/pull pins or screws or a mixture of both. open the hood and look at the top of the grill (between the lights) and you should be able to tell
Q: How to fix a deflating tire on a ford taurus 2002?
Hi our tire keeps deflating on our car. So we keep refilling it. The mechanic informed us there isn't a tube on the inside. So how are we supposed to fix it? He said something like he could tighten the bolts. Any ideas here? The tire is official ford taurus 2002 tire, which i'm referring to.
Thanks for your thoughts.
What confuses me though is the fact that they say these tires don't have tubes in them.
What confuses me though is the fact that they say these tires don't have tubes in them.
A: I've been a Mechanic for over 20 years
You have 2 choices, you can either take the car down to your local tire shop and have them check it out and fix it on the cheap, or you can go buy a can of Fix a Flat at autozone or your local store.
It's a simple fix for a professional, your mechanic is obviously not a professional.
Q: How well do the back seats in a ford taurus wagon fold down? Could I sleep in it?
I am going on a coast to coast drive, while I will typically stay in a campground or hotel I want the option to pull over into a truck stopp or 24 hr walmart and catch a short night of sleep. I am wondering if the seats in the ford taurus wagon fold flat enough to sleep in the back with a sleeping bag? Any ideas on the dimensions length wise? Thanks!
Also it is a 2000 model.
A: Yes, they fold flat down to the seat, you will have enough room to stretch your leg out . My wife, son & I take a trip a few years ago in our old ford wagon ,they both got in the rear of the wagon and slept a few hours before we got home ,they had plenty of room to rest. By having the wagon save use some money as well.
Q: How to put more than one disc in 05 Ford Taurus car cd player?
On my car, it says "Tune" and then under it, it says "Disc 1-6". I assume that means that you can have 6 cds in the player at once. I just don't know how to do that. I have a 2005 Ford Taurus SE.
I don't see any load button or anything.
A: That car comes with an optional 6 disc changer in the trunk. If your car doesn't have the changer then that button will not do anything.
Q: How many miles can I reasonably expect to put on a 1995 Ford Taurus 3.0 engine before it fails?
I have a 1995 Ford Taurus Station Wagon that I absolutely love. I've kept up with the routine oil changes. The car currently has 153,000 miles. How many more miles can I expect to put on this engine before it needs to be replaced (and any ideas about how much a replacement engine for this car would cost)?
Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.
A: Depends upon how you drive and service your your car. I have 234,000 on my 3.0. Replaced the timing belt at 190,000 and the fuel mileage went back up to the high 20s. 90% of my miles are h
Q: How much does a rear bumper for a 2003 ford taurus cost?
I have a 2003 ford taurus and was wondering how much a brand new rear bumper for it would cost?
A: The rear bumper has many parts- make sure you get a quote on all damaged parts. There are brackets, the bumper proper and the bumper cover, at the very least.
