Q: How reliable is the Jeep Liberty in regards to mileage beyond 100,000 miles?
I am looking to buy a used Jeep Liberty 4x4 automatic. I have never driven a Jeep before therefore I am questionable about Jeep's reliability in regards to the upkeep and durability beyond 100,000 miles. How reliable and durable is the Jeep Liberty and will it last beyond 150,000 miles?

A: they are good to at least 200,000 miles. be sure to change your spark plugs at 100,000 miles.

Q: What is the difference between the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited trims?
I am wanting to get a Jeep in the next couple of weeks, but am having some trouble deciding exactly which model I'm getting. I know the difference in the 4x2s and 4x4s, I'm definitely getting the 4x4, no use in getting a 2WD Jeep, the problem is choosing between the X, Sahara, and Rubicon trims. I know the difference comes in the available upgrades, but just what are they?

A: I am not sure what the X has that a regular Sport does not have. The Sahara is the upgraded version of the Sport (which is the 6cyl model). These are cosmetic upgrades - upgraded seats, power windows, cd player etc. The Rubicon is also an upgraded version of the Sport but it is an off road upgrade. The Rubicon comes with the Dana 44 rear axle (compared to the 35c on the Sport), lower gearing, more aggressive tires and a few other mods that I can't remember. So, basically if you are going to drive it on the street and never plan to take it off road I would go with the Sahara or X. If you plan to do some offroading, you might want to go with the Rubicon.

Q: How do I stop my Jeep Compass automatically locking while driving?
I have just bought a 2007 Jeep compass. I don't like that the doors lock automatically while I am driving, is there any way to change this and stop it from happening? I also locked my keys in the car while I was pumping gas because of the automatic locks.

A: I don't think there is anyway to stop them from automatically locking. They consider this a safety feature so it is programed to do this. As far as locking the keys in the car, you may have to develop a habit of removing them from the ignition when getting out or be more careful not to touch the power locks while getting in and out.

Q: How many miles can a Jeep Cherokee go for without having major problems?
I've been looking to buy a used jeep and i have seen so many that have mannyy miles on them (like 130,000!). Is it worth buying one of these vehicles with this many miles on it?

A: I've owned a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and it had problems all the time. I was so scared of it since somethings it turned off in the middle of driving on the road!! Personally, i would not buy one but others say about after 70,000 miles, major problems including the timing and piston seals will break

Q: What would taking the carpet out of my Jeep do to the audio quality?
I have a Jeep Wrangler, and I'm about to put a full sound system in, dual 12" sub woofers, etc. I want to take the carpet out of my Jeep, would that diminish the sound quality? (I already know its an open air vehicle and I'll be losing a lot of sound and what not), would I be better off leaving the carpet? What about a rubber liner? Rhino lining? Or nothing at all?

A: Without the carpet you may notice a little more noise, both from the road and from your stereo. You may also have a little bit of rattling. Overall I don't think it would make a huge difference. If you added rhino lining or similar material that should help to dampen the metal a little bit which would improve sound quality. It would also be durable for everyday use. Good Luck!!!

Q: How many more miles should my Jeep Liberty be worth?
I bought a Jeep liberty 2003. 4WD. I have 114,000 mi on it. I drive to work 55 mi round trip every day on a state highway. I change the oil every 3000 mi. I have had it serviced pretty regularly. It runs well. Are these reliable vehicles. My daughters new husband told her it was rated low on the Consumer report. How many miles can I expect to get out of it? Should I be planning on getting a new vehicle in the next 24 mo?

A: If it's taken care of well it can last several more yrs and well over 250,000 miles, what I might be thinking of is the timing and having it checked maybe done soon on it.Also I'd be wondering when was the last time the transmission fluid and filter was changed using the proper recommended factory fluids and kits.Keep in mind that certain chemical additives are in the transmission fluids on those vehicles and they can wear down causing lots of shifting or bucking or stuttering or kicking or odd shifting problems so it's another good reason to have the transmission fluid and filter changed I'd say every 60 to 75,000 miles or every 3 to 5 years depending on how much you drive the vehicle and in your case it not be a bad idea to change them if it's not been done yet.One extra bit of info if you've not had the charging system over hauled yet or especially if your vehicle has been subject to extreme weather or temperatures I'd be sure to get it done. One major problem vehicles have is that their sometimes not well maintained and they can't maintain themselves but it sounds like you keep on top of it and that means your Jeep will out last most ppl's vehicles. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way I recommend changing the gas filter on a yrly basis , plus make sure when you get the oil changed that they lube the front end and doors etc on it too, also treat the gas periodically with something like a Lucas gas treatment etc,it's not a bad idea bec it's a 2003 to clean the ignition module spark-plug wire connections one by one with a file and wire brush, do the same thing to the fuse box , power junctions , battery , alternator , starter , engine block ground posts and all the grounds that you can find. One last note watch your gages especially the temperature gages so you can tell once it's cold started where the gage sits , then once it's a warm idling temperature how fast and where the gage sits , plus it's been driven a few hrs where does the temperature sit at and once it's driven several hrs. One of the best ways of doing this is starting with a engine that is well tuned , clean gas system , good exhaust systems and a proper coolant mixtures and coolant that is clean and of good quality , plus having the coolant tested periodically and watching the level of the coolant system , plus making sure that all other fluids are good and the proper levels, also making sure that a full 4 wheel alignment is performed once a year, making sure that the tires are good and their air pressure are correct , along with properly balanced. I highly recommended doing things like this so it's helps you not only save money but especially in getting to know your vehicles you drive and also I recommend watching your gage's to know your vehicle better and to notice or spot problems faster.

Q: What are the dimensions of a jeep wranglers trunk?
I think i might be getting a jeep wrangler but i will be driving with my top down the majority of the summer.. but i am planning on putting leaving my longboard in my jeep I will just lock the trunk and keep it in there but will it fit??? What are the dimensions of a jeep wranglers trunk??

A: Well if you have the top down there is no trunk to lock anything up with unless you get the insta-trunk. It is basically a locking top you buy that attaches to the tub behind the back seat. http://www.quadratec.com/products/14147_03_07.htm But either way, a longboard will not fit in the back of a wrangler. I looked up longboards and they are around 41" long. I just went out and measured the length in the back of my wrangler and it is only 36" across. It is about 9" wide so it would fit width wise but not length wise. You might fit one in if you have an Unlimited. They have a larger space behind the back seat and it might fit if you put it in at an angle.

Q: How much could I sell my jeep liberty for?
I have a 2006 Jeep Liberty with about 45,000 miles on it. There are only minor markings on 2 seats of the car but other than that it looks very clean. How much would I be able to sell this for? Tires in nice condition and it's never had any problems with the engine or transmission.

A: At least 5 grand. (if there is nothing wrong with the engine or transmission and the tires aren't bald.)

Q: My jeep is making an odd clicking noise when it moves. What could that be and how much to fix it?
My jeep makes a clicking sound when I drive and only when it's moving. I want to know what it is and roughly how much it would cost to repair. Thanks.

A: Is is making the sounds when you turn the wheel or switch gears?

A: rooster by alice in chains

Q: How do you reset engine monitors after storing jeep with battery disconnected?
I reconnected battery on my 2002 Jeep Wrangler Sport after storage. I need to smog. I drove approx 100 miles on it, but the smog test won't work because the sensors aren't activated or reset

A: you need to drive in city traffic, normal driving, and highway so the computer can relearn. if you turn your key to on [do not engage starter] the check engine is on , if it stays on for a minite your ready for smog. if it starts to blink after 15-20 secs then turns on steady your not ready for smog, drive around town some more, and take a short ride on a highway

Q: My 2002 jeep wrangler transmission does not want to work, what should i check for?
My sister managed to catch the jeep on fire, the engine works fine, but the tranny is getting on my nerves, i have checked the fuse box, located in the engine compartment and the one located in back of the glove compartment, what should i check for?

A: is your transfer case in neutral? if its an automatic check the fluid.in neutral i believe with the motor running.also an auto trans will have a transmission control module(computer).check all fuses.there are also relays.if it is a standard trans check by removing the plug on the side of the unit. it will probably require automatic trans fluid also. check yer owners manual always to confirm what lubricants to use. good luck. i just restored a burned 89 bronco fullsize with a slight modification to the fuel injection system.lotsa damn werk i did too much.. it's freakin bad!i wish i didnt have to sell it.but the judge wants me to makea carreer of paying his graft.

Q: We have replaced several parts on out 1997 Jeep cherokee and it continues to cut off any suggestions?
The jeep stalls out and sputters and then just cuts off. We have taken it to be placed on a diagnostic machine and it has said that the o2 sensor needed to be replaced and the TPS sensor as well. We have replaced all of these parts and it acts like it is fixed for a day or two and then we have the same problems again. We have also replaced the ignition coil and the fuel regulator, but we are still having the same problem.

A: Very easy! I have owned my Cherokee since new in 1995 and it is approaching 260,000 miles, so I have some experience tinkering with it. You have one of two possible failures. A) Crankshaft Position Sensor. Located at the top of the transmission bellhousing on the drivers side. A little trick to change, but doable by a semi-amatuer! B) Camshaft Position Sensor. Located inside the Distributor. Easy to change. Buy them both and carry a spare for the future under the back seat! Later, Bruce

Q: How do I manually ground out my ac compressor on my Jeep?
I have a 99 jeep grand cherokee and the jeep mechanics tell me the ECM is not sending a signal to ground the compressor, and will cost $800.00 to fix. So I figure if I manually ground it out then set up a toggle in the cab this would work. I do not have the cash to fix it right now and summer is here. Any help would be appreciated.

A: The computer actually grounds the ac relay to turn on the compressor. If you hook up a toggle switch you will have to apply 12 volts to the compressor clutch.Disconnect the connector going to the compressor and isolate it. Don't feed power back into the circuit. Watch your engine temp and don't let it overheat. If it has an aux fan you might want to jump it also. Remember to fuse the toggle switch with an in-line fuse.

Q: What are the advantages and disadvantages of driving a JEEP?
In your opinion, what would you consider as being the advantages and disadvantages of driving a JEEP automobile?

A: MR K- I owned a Wrangler for a number of years and really liked it, but it got about 18 miles a gallon, didn't have a great heater and was a pain with road noise. It was impossible to have a conversation with anyone while driving; however, getting off-road was magical. I drove it all over upper Michigan and once drove from Harbor Springs to Mackinaw only touching asphalt a half dozen times. When you have the top down, the doors off and the sun is out. It is fantastic. No trunk is a bummer, but I never had anything stolen from mine ... and I didn't have locks. Gas mileage is simply terrible. This is what happens with Wranglers ... young guys who are accountants and lawyers and ad guys buy them because, "they always wanted a jeep" they drive them for a year or two and figure out they suck gas, are noisy, ride rough and they can't store their laptops ... so they dump them with 20 or 30 K on the odometer. As a result you can get a nice used Wrangler for 5 grand less than a new one. If I was to get another jeep I'd make sure it was as basic a ride as possible and keep it only as a second vehicle.
