Q: Who knows if the 2009 Subaru WRX has faulty engine builds and is prone to engine failure?
I've been looking at getting a 2009 Subaru WRX wagon due to its performance and winter capabilities. However, thus far over 50 people on the NASIOC site have reported engine failures; Subaru has consequently been replacing the entire turbo engine. Recent posts suggest the faulty engines are from earlier build dates of 8/08 to 9/08. Can anyone confirm this? Subaru has denied knowing anything of this sort.

A: There were some failures but not that many. You can't go by what is said on NASIOC. Too many kids on there spreading shit. And yes it was in the tune. Subaru recently has been doing some funny things with the tuning. The 08 STI has the same problem too as well as the 07 STI. Nothing wrong with the build it self. Some people were just beating on the engine too much and it was causing problems but there have been service bulletins about it and as far as I know, it's not an issue anymore. Just ask if the car you are looking at either has a build date after the specified time or has had a reflash done to fix any problems. It should say in the thread on NASIOC what months were bad. Thing you need to know is, the new WRX's have been selling pretty well but you never hear people posting about having no problems. Only people who have had a problem post and it spreads and looks like an epidemic. And it's not that the dealer you spoke to is in denial. It's very possible that they have never had one brought in for the problem. Like I said, the percent of failures compared to the units sold is very small.

Q: What is the offset for the wheels on a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon?
I own a 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon and I think it's time for a new set of wheels. I need to know what the offset is so I can buy me a new set. Also, would rims with an offset of 42 mm fit (securely) on my car? Thanks.

A: I believe the offset is 55mm. Check out tire rack to shop for wheels. They will list the offset to give you an idea of what will fit properly. 42mm may be pushing it, I see many at 48 or 50mm.

Q: What should i expect to get by installing a HKS Down Pipe to my 2004 Subaru WRX?
I just bought a HKS Downpipe for my 2004 Subaru WRX. What can i expect to gain out of the installment? For Example: Will i get more horsepower? If i do get more horsepower, how much horsepower should i be expecting to get out of it? Will it sound louder?

A: about 15-20 hp with out a ecu tune. but you need to watch out for boost spikes.

Q: Is it possible to physically remove my rear wing from my 2007 Subaru WRX?
I want to remove my rear wing from my 2007 Subaru WRX w/out going to paying someone to do it. The rear wing came factory with the car, however it's not very appealing and i want to remove it. Is it possible to do this?

A: Why not just register on all the Subaru forums and find someone with the same color who is looking for a wing. You guy's can just trade trunks and locks and no holes to fill or anything.

Q: How much does a used 2002 or 2004 Subaru wrx cost?
I was thinking about buying a used....only used, subaru wrx. I cannot afford a 2009 one...but I was thinking about some other year. I want one so so so bad. And I can't spend too much money. Please help. Well you know I looked em up all the time and it gives me bunch of different prices dude. so yeah.

A: You tell us. It's just as easy for you to go research the price of these cars, as it is for us. Go on Craigslist, or eBay, and just look for the car. If you can use the internet well enough to get to this point...you can surely do that.

Q: when buying a subaru wrx what is the best yr. when it will be driven in snow?
I'm thinking of buying a subaru wrx for my winter vehicle i was wondering how they handled in the snow? and what year of the wrx would i be happier with?

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - carinsurance.yoll.net

Q: How much should I be expecting to pay to get a weld-on down pipe installed for a 2004 Subaru WRX?
I just bought a down pipe for my 2004 Subaru WRX and i was just wondering how much i should be expecting to pay. I wana see how much I should expect to get the Wel-on Down Pipe installed. thnx Its not a bolt on Down Pipe. I bought one where you have to Weld it on...

A: I can't imagine why you would buy such a thing, if you weren't skilled as a welder yourself. A ready to install, swap & drop version wouldn't be too hard to find. To save money, perhaps? (I rather doubt it, as most respectable welding shops charge $75 to $100 per hour.) Without seeing the actual kit; without knowing roughly how much actual fitting and welding would be needed, it couldn't even begin to estimate. Try posting this question again, with a link to a picture of the kit.

Q: Insurance estimate on a 2003 Subaru WRX for a 19 year old?
Im a 19 year old student with a completely clean driving record. Just curious on how much the insurance would be on a 2003 Subaru WRX (not sti) sedan. I wouldn't be the primary driver. My mom would be the owner I would just be a secondary driver. Any estimates?

A: Help yourself - you can check your quotes in internet, for example here - carquotes.sinfree.net

Q: Why don't they offer the Subaru WRX STI Coupe with the highest end engine?
I was looking at getting a Subaru WRX STI, but I don't like the hatchback. The only way I can get the highest horsepower is with the hatch... Are they going to offer the highest end engine in the coupe any time soon? The hatch to me just looks like a sporty Ford Focus or Taurus station wagon. I don't have anything against hatches, I currently have a 2009 Volkswagen GTI. Thanks for the help!

A: mostly because subaru hates us. they ALWAYS do this. for example STi was avalible in europe in 1992, 12 years prior to the US release. and then we didnt even get the prodrive ,PPP, P1, mcrae versions or ANY special editon STIs in 1994 USA saw the last Turbocharged legacy for 11 years. meanwhile in europe they, not only had turbos, they had twin turbos. we didnt get a turbo legacy till 2005. they also got the third generation legacys a year prior to us. and there is no turbo 3.7L 430HP Legacy STi for the usa.. no thats a European thing. and the diesel boxer? subaru released it in europe in 2008 but did we get one? no subaru says no and then changed there mind and said ok we'll let you have it.. in 2 more years. dont get me wrong i LOVE subaru. but they drive me insane with this crap that they do. I can handle the stis and the turbos but WHY CANT WE HAVE THE 53MPG DIESEL???????? damn you subaru! why do you hate us?!?! ARRRGGGGGG!!

Q: Any good shops to take a Subaru WRX to near Winter Haven, Lake Wales area.?
I need to take a Subaru WRX to a shop that specializes in subaru wrx's or other imports with turbos. Any good places?

A: Try a subaru dealership. Or just any mechanics shop, they would know how a wrx works just as well as an import shop.
