Q: How to disable the alarm on a 2000 VW Jetta?
I only have my manual key and half the time I open my door, the lock opend but the alarm does not turn off. I can sometime re-lock then unlock back and forth and the alarm will go off. That does not always work so I sit in my car for 30 seconds with my alarm blarring. I do not want to take this to the dealer and fork over a lot of money. I would rather learn how to disable the alarm. Can someone please tell me how to do this or where I can find out. Thank you! There is nothing under the dash, do you have another suggestion? Thanks

A: Look under the dash buy th steering colum there should be a small switch insert your key and turn forward but do not start you will have 10 seconds to turn alarm off this will deactivate and do the same to reactivate

Q: Why does my 2000 VW Jetta VR6 makes a rattling noise on a cold start for a few seconds?
Almost everytime when I start my car it makes a rattling noise for a few seconds. It usually does it only on a cold start.

A: Your concern is not unusual; the chain tensioner needs to build oil pressure for the variable valve timing set up in these and other VW motors, how long the noise is will determine if the dealer will cover the noise under the power train warranty (if you're the original owner, you have coverage for 10 years, 100 thousand miles), if you're not the original owner, then you're out of luck.. There is a service bullentin regarding this concern; ask your dealer to show it to you. I haven't worked for a VW dealer since December of 05, but remember the issue quite well. The is of course other possiblities, including the issue of oil pump or bearing wear, but, I suspect the mostly issue will be the one of chain tensioner. Many of the VR6 and V6 engines had/have the issue for a few seconds at start up if the vehicle has sat more than 8 hours. Hope this helps, a car niut.

Q: How do you fill the radiator for a 2000 VW Jetta?
I am currently fixing a leak, but I am wondering how to fill the radiator since it doesn't have a cap. Do you fill through the reservoir tank? Thanks in advance.

A: You fill the radiator thru the coolant tank; run the engine at a fast idle for a while till the engine warms up. You should feel the top and lower radiator hose get hot and see the coolant level in the tank change. If you have a coolant leak, you should get the coolant system pressurized to see a leak, as sometimes the leak may not be visible to the eye. If you see the coolant tank continue to have bubbles after it gets hot/warm, there is a possiblity that you may have a blown head gasket. Depending on if you are the original owner or not and how many miles you have, you might have coverage under the 10 year/100,000 powertrain coverage for a blown headgasket. The dealer will have to determine the cause of failure first. Be sure and check all the heater/radiator/coolant hose clamps as they are known to loosen over time; its the reason I'm not a fan of screw type clamps. Use the correct coolant for the vehicle, it will be orange/pinkish in colour and you will need to go to a VW parts department to purchase it. Don't mix the wrong type of coolant in your system because if you do, you'll need to have the system power flushed out and refilled with correct coolant and water mix. Hope this helps, a car nut.

Q: Where can i find a turbo to fit my 2000 vw jetta 2.0?
I am having trouble finding Performance parts for my 2000 vw jetta 2.0. Seems like i can only find turbo's for the 1.8t.

A: It is very rare to turbo the 2.0 engine. It's nickname is the 2.slow. Below is a link to a website! http://www.kineticmotorsport.com/catalog/MKIV_2_0L-257-1.html

Q: where to get steering wheel knob for 2000 VW Jetta?
Hi, I need steering wheel knob for 2000 VW Jetta as I have limited strength in one of my arm and DMV wouldn't give me DL without knob. Also, I would like to buy from a place with friendly return policy as in my first attempt I ended up buying and then returning without refund when knob didn't fit on my vehicle. Thanks, Kapil

A: try ebay or ebaymotors

Q: how much is it to check electrical problems on 2000 VW Jetta?
So i'm having all kinds of electrical issues, my alarm will randomly activate, the signal lights will go off continuously as though the alarm is being activated. my door locks will sometimes not work, and all this is really pissing me off. i live in the san marcos, tx area. any suggestions on where to take it?

A: Go to someone who has the diagnostic equipment as they will charge you around $100( cheaper if you go to a small garage) to find the fault and also tell you how much it will cost to repair.

Q: Is it easy to replace piston rings in a 2000 VW Jetta?
not for me personally to change it, but for a repair shop, like will this cost me an arm and a leg?

A: Depends. Do you know how to tear apart an engine? If you have to ask this question, you are better off taking it to a mechanic.

Q: How much would it cost to get the serpentine belt & tensioner replaced on my 2000 vw jetta?
Tire Kingdom wants to charge me $475? Should I go somewhere else?

A: You could call around but really that's not a bad price. The belt and tensioner is a diy job if you have tools. Its really not that hard.Under the hood will have a drawing of how the belt goes around the pulleys. Belts at the auto parts store run around 25 to 50 dollars. Go to www.autozone.com and you can check cost of parts. The belt tensioner for the v6 engine cost around 80 dollars.

Q: Sound system in a 2000 vw jetta?
The "monsoon" receiver / cd changer in my 2000 vw jetta need to be replaced. I am looking to buy a double din cd / receiver. Are there any made specifically to fit in this car. I am interested in having a unit that fill the entire space without a gaudy install kit.

A: they used to have some made by pioneer, I am not sure they make them anymore

Q: does anyone have a listing of what each warning light symbol on a 2000 VW Jetta GLX is?
I bought the car without an owners manual and a warning light that looks like a key with some lines on the side is going off. Does anyone know what this symbol means?

A: I think that is your coolant/temperature gauge. It looks similar to the one on the left in this pic? (nevermind the fog light reference): http://s18.photobucket.com/albums/b121/ranebwbrite/?action=view¤t=symbols-FOG.jpg It could be just that your coolant is low, or your thermostat is bad.

Q: How do I reprogram the key/remote control for a 2000 VW Jetta VR6?
I just replaced the batteries on both my keys, because they were both out, but now i can't get them to work. im pretty sure the batteries are good. if the fuse was blown would the in-car power locks still work?

A: once programed it will not need to be re-programed. recheck your replacement batteries and fuses in your vehicle. may need dealer to check brain box for remote access nonfictional

Q: Does anyone know where I can find a free online chilton manual for a 2000 vw jetta gls v6?
I need to know how to repair the thermostat, housing, hose, etc.

A: Believe it or not a lot of libraries carry these. Or you could just break down and buy one.
