May Carroll's many fans have waited a long time for this collection.
It not only contains the text of many of her most popular performance
pieces, but much new work as well. First coming to prominence in
the late 1980s as a member of the Hobart-based group, Three Well-dressed
Poets and Two Serious Musicians, May has established a huge
reputation as a solo performance poet, enlivening with her unusual
mix of wit, sardony and zaniness everything from orthodontists'
dinners to suburban busses.
"These poems chuck you a life-buoy then yank it out of your
reach...Never mind the pompous house of poesie here come the termites...Some
of the poems are shocking. None of them are sensationalist, except
in the best sense. An honest soul appears in the biggest pack of
bullshit artists I've ever seen: poets."
